Anemia is not a disease in itself, rather the result of other conditions. Many types of anemia exist. The cause may be an iron or vitamin defiency, blood loss, a chronic illness, or a genetic defect or disease. It can be a side effect of a medication.
If you suspect you have anemia, work with your physician to confirm you have anemia, type of anemia, its severity and to properly treat it.
If you have Vitamin B-12 deficiency it can be successfully treated with supplements. In many cases, the anemia will return if the supplementation is stopped.
A condition of anemia can have serious consequences if ignored, again consult with your health provider to confirm if you have anemia.

GOOD NEWS for people concerned about Vitamin B12 supplementation but fearful of injections and needles: A recent study finds that taking daily vitamin B12 supplements orally is just as effective at correcting nutrient deficiencies as costly B12 injections.
Researchers in the Netherlands studied a group of elderly patients diagnosed with specific vitamin B12 deficiency. Patients who took daily supplements of the B vitamin fared equally well compared with those who received monthly B12 shots. To ensure proper absorption, the study's authors recommend taking about 200 times the recommended daily allowance of vitamin B12, or between 650 and 1,000 micrograms per day...July 10, 2005
